Changelog (Build 3.0)
Get ready to dock, sailors, for the island of Oxport is finally within reach for our band of colorful weirdos!! This has of course been a long time coming, the last major content update was Build 2.0 over half a year ago, with a couple smaller updates sprinkled throughout the wait. I've since received some wonderful feedback from players, and am eternally grateful to you all for spending your valuable time playing my lil passion project.
As some of you (specifically members of the game's Discord server) may know, I've made the decision to split the story arc into two separate updates. One includes an introduction to Oxport, its characters, and the plot you'll be following, while the other will build on the groundwork in a grandiose way. The reason I split the update up is mainly because of how big it ended up being. Looking at the changelog below, I'm sure you'll see what I mean. Regardless of it being "unfinished" this might be the biggest update the game has ever gotten, and I'm excited to share it with you all. Enjoy!
Changelog (Build 3.0):
- Added Oxport, the island of marine education! In this first half, you'll meet faces both new and familiar, as you hunt down Ichiban the Sleeper so you can finally ride towards the Grand Line
- Changed the position of the enemy sprites in every unique combat encounter of the game, differentiating them from one another and decluttering them
- Gave each party member one new technique each, though as there's not a lot of combat in Oxport so far, you likely won't encounter them this early on. They also haven't been, uh, tested yet, so have fun potentially breaking the game if you feel like grinding for 'em!
- Altered the rocks and mountains in the overworld in a couple ways appearance-wise, like adding another mountain variant, and decluttering the rock placements in the shallow waters
- Tweaked the collisions for the big mountains on the overworld
- Changed the windows of the houses in Rabola. Some had their foliage changed for variation, one was a weird hybrid between two window types that I never noticed was wrong, and the Maradona house's windows are now shut to reflect the person living in it
- Changed the name I'm referred to when using the Map key item (forgot about that last update ;-;)
- Fixed the names of the Namakubi Grunts encountered on Hayai Island, as they were previously called "Namabuki". 10th update in and I just realized this
- In classic One Piece fashion, Odokuro and Ichiban now shout the names of their signature techniques when performing them
- Gave Odokuro's "Ōkina Ha" technique a stamina cost, something I previously forgot to do. This likely won't have an effect on the fight, it's just a little thing
- Ichiban's "Tetsu no Ken" technique now deals Physical damage
- Lowered the volume of the background wind in the Ichiban confrontation scene
- The exclamation mark now only appears above Apollo after Ichiban is done talking about him
- Ori now directly threatens Ichiban one additional time in the confrontation scene
- Pirates now only drop 175 berries
- Increased Lora's attack growth over levels
- All offensive techniques are now affected by defense or magic defense, unless the contrary is stated
- Changed the description of the Soda item to say SP instead of MP
- Lowered the price of Magic Water from 2000 to 1600 berries
- Updated the look of the game's two secret rooms, including marking an item pickup in the second to differentiate it from the other props in the area
- Rewrote some dialogue in that same room, primarily swapping out Lora's role in the dialogue with Apollo, who it fits much better
- Slightly updated the designs of the ships in the game so they look less like they're laying on the ground. This does not include the SS Yamato on the overworld, which I'm still attempting to figure out how to make look good
- Generally tweaked the look of the Marine ship in Rabola
- Added chimneys to more buildings in Rabola
- You can now RING THE BELLS in the Inn and Town Hall on Rabola. Truly, the greatest addition to this game, of all time
- Renamed several locations on Hayai Island and Rabola in the pause menu for consistency with newer locations
- Removed the shadows on the left side of the High-Cs General stores to emphasize that brightly lit-up department store vibe
- Talisman Slips now disable random encounters entirely for 100 steps
- Added some dialogue for those wishing to revisit a past area
- Fixed an oversight where exiting the High-Cs General would teleport you back to Hayai Island. This was the result of me copying the Hayai Island room directly into Rabola without remembering to change the teleport location. Terrible oversight, thank you to the person who pointed it out
- Rewrote one of Ichiban's lines in the confrontation scene to emphasize his cockiness
- Tweaked one of Pez's lines post-fight to emphasize his considering of what to do
- Changed Petty Officer Horace's angry face sprite
- Gave Ori a shocked reaction bubble when getting told to put their hands in the air by a marine
- Covered up the path towards the Grugby field in the Rabola Mountain Path, so you don't miss triggering the event crucial to progress
- Changed the way scenes involving party members moving and emoting on their own work. In the past I would remove the party members from the party and return them once the scene ended, but this would result in the player getting a game over if Ori had previously been knocked out. I fixed this by recovering Ori's health after such scenes, but this was clunky. I now know that all I had to do this entire time was turn off the party members following you with a simple command, and now everything is a lot simpler. Took me long enough
- Gave the saleswoman that gives you the Galileo one last line in the scene with Pez and Wicke at the shipyard
- The saleswoman now has alternate dialogue for after you've dealt with Ichiban
- Placed objects to prevent players from stepping on the sails of the ship being constructed in the SS Yamato Shipyard, letting them walk onto and around on the walls. I have no idea how to fix this, so I'll just let it be for now
- Increased the waiting time between entering the SS Yamato's off-limits area and getting transported into the meeting event by 15 frames, making the transition a bit less awkward
And just as a little hint, there's a hidden room somewhere on Oxport. I'll let *you* guys figure out where it is ;)
